RIBA Venues appoints new Executive Head Chef

RIBA Venues today announces the appointment of a new Executive Head Chef.

Maxine Brady joins the RIBA Venues team from Disappearing Dining Club, an independent catering company which specialises in pop-up restaurants, which Maxine ran as her own business while also taking on the role of Chef Director. Her other experience includes Head Chef roles at Oxo Tower Brasserie and Butcher and Grill, as well as Executive Chef and Consultant for Rushmore Group’s East Room Private Members Club in Shoreditch.

Maxine has also helped produce the informative recipe book The Grain Bowl by Nik Williamson for which she assisted in devising the recipe concepts.

Maxine’s role as Executive Head Chef at RIBA, will see her running the meetings and events catering operation as well as leading Bistro at 66, the onsite restaurant located on the first floor of the venue.

Maxine comments on her new role: “I am thrilled to be taking on the role of Executive Head Chef within RIBA and being given the opportunity to work with such a prestigious venue. I am looking forward to getting stuck in, working with the team and producing some truly wonderful and innovative menus.”  (March 2017)

RIBA Venues appoints new Head of Venues

RIBA Venues today announces the appointment of a new Head of Venues.

Moya Maxwell joins the RIBA Venues team from the Royal Opera House where she worked as Head of Commercial Programming. Moya brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the role having worked in the events industry for over 20 years. Her other experience includes roles at St James Theatre, Sadler’s Wells and work as Chairman of Unique Venues of London.

Moya’s role at RIBA Venues will see her leading and developing the venue and events teams to ensure they continue to increase their commercial contribution to the charity and fulfil their public and cultural remit to encourage more people to engage with and explore architecture.

Moya comments on her new role: “I am delighted to have joined such a unique and prestigious venue. I hope to build on the success of winning Best Conference Centre at the 2016 Conference Awards by further developing our conference and events offering in a way that highlights the unique asset of this beautiful art deco building.”

RIBA Venues Sales and Marketing Manager Kirsten Kruls adds: “We are excited to welcome Moya on board. With her vast experience in the meeting and events sector, I’m sure she will continue to develop RIBA Venues. (January 2017)

And the winner is… RIBA Venues!

On Friday 1st July, over 600 event professionals came together at the Conference Awards 2016  lunch at Tabacco Dock and were entertained  by co-host Stephen K Amos and Pippa Evans. The awards which recognise and reward excellence in the events industry within the UK were presented across 21 categories following a rigorous judging process. 

RIBA Venues was voted the “Best UK Conference Venue for 300 to 900 delegates”  fighting  off strong competition from the BMA House, Business Design Centre, Center Parcs Sherwood Forest, Emirates Stadium, Olympia London Conference Centre, Pullman, London St Pancras, Whittlebury Hall Conference, and the Training Centre and Hotel.

The judges picked RIBA Venues, with its conference facilities and auditorium for up to 400 delegates, due to our impressive approach and strong commitment to customer service and flexible food concepts.

Stephanie Ellrott, Head of Venues, said:  “We are over the moon to have won this national recognised award, what a huge achievement. Receiving such a prestigious industry award is a great tribute to our team’s hard work and dedication in providing an award winning experience to our clients.” (July 2016)

Title: May I Do Your Job?

Standfirst: RIBA Venues in London recently carried out a job swap between its staff. Conference News got the lowdown.

Have you ever wondered what your colleagues do all day? RIBA Venues, the conference and events arm of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), based at 66 Portland Place, recently gave its workforce the opportunity to swap roles for the day as part of a job swap lottery.The following positions were offered to team members wishing to take part; Chef de Partie; Pastry Chef; Kitchen Chef; Receptionist       ; Facilities Assistant; Floor Manager; Bistro Supervisor; Proactive Sales Manager; Venues Account Manager; Diary Manager and AV technician.RIBA Venues Head of Venues, Stephanie Ellrott, says: “We wanted to increase awareness of other departments across the business and their roles, responsibilities and struggles. We hoped the initiative would join the teams together, create better communication between departments and improve team work.”

RIBA Venue’s  Sales and Marketing Manager, Kirsten Kruls, spent the day as a Pastry Chef. She helped the Pastry Chef cater for an event by learning how to produce macaroons, carrot cakes and poppy and lemon seed muffins. Kirsten said: “Working with the Pastry Chef for a day was a real eye-opener and made me realise just how busy they are. I was helping to create macaroons for an event at the venue and I had no idea how much work went into making these and getting them ‘just right’. It really is time consuming creating specific dishes for each event.

Isabel Bratos, the venue’s Account Manager, shadowed the AV team on a busy day. Isabel said: “ I really enjoyed my day with the AV guys as I not only learned how to use some of the more complicated equipment but also have a better understanding about what needs to be done and when. I will be more aware from now on when I book AV lighting, sound and presentations at the same time.”

The initiative was so successful that RIBA Venues has decided to do it all again at the beginning of 2016.

Stephanie says: “The initiative was great fun and created a buzz around the venue. It
also helped create a wider understanding for the whole team. It gave people new
career aspirations and widened their horizons while also helping them to mix
with different teams throughout the business.” (December 2015)
